Roasted Spring Barley
Known in Japan as mugicha, our spring barley is lightly roasted to bring out the grassy and sweet flavours. Naturally grown without the use of any pesticides or chemicals, our roasted spring barley is harvested 1,200 – 1,500m above sea level from the Zangezur Mountains of Armenia. Only the outer husks have been removed (and the barley itself has not been pearled), which means higher nutritional content within each grain. Perfect for coffee lovers or those looking for something a little more savoury (without any bitterness).

Description
Hydrating
Barley, a cereal grain, has been cultivated and used for over 10,000 years as an ingredient for bread, stews, soups, and beer. Barley is widely used for drinking purposes – in Italy powdered barley is used as a coffee substitute and in Japan iced barley tisane, known as mugicha, is drunk during the hot summer months. Barley tisane was considered an ancient healer and used for its health benefits, such as promoting a well-functioning digestion system. At present, roasted barley tisane is used in traditional medicine as an herbal remedy for boosting immunity, improving cognitive function (with recent clinical studies showing increased speed of performance and episodic memory), protecting the cardiovascular system and for hydration.

Barley tisane may be drunk hot or cold, and may be enjoyed before a meal to aid digestion or during or after exercise for increased hydration.

Henry B –
This makes me feel refreshed in the morning. I’m happy it’s caffeine free too so I can cut down on the coffee which I don’t feel I need as much.

What can I say but simply a delicious tea at any time of the day!! I look forward to trying it cold on hot summer days.

I enjoy the tea which is smooth, nutty and light with an undertone of sweetness. It quiches my thirst and much more refreshing than water. Best of all, it’s pesticides free.
