Wild Mountain Mint

(5 customer reviews)

Our award-winning wild mountain mint is warming and refreshing. It is foraged and handpicked 1,800m above sea level from its native habitat, the untouched Lalvar Mountain, Lori, Armenia. Compared to standard mint infusions available, our mint is noticeably delicate, not only due to being a completely different subspecies of mint, but also due to altitude and purer growing conditions.

Description

Mint or ‘mentha’ refers to a genus or group of around 15 to 20 perennial plant species, originating from Asia and the Mediterranean region. Aside from its obvious wealth of health benefits, mint has been used inside and outside the home by ancient civilisations for thousands of years. Ancient Greeks would add sprigs of mint to their baths, and crush and rub mint leaves on banqueting tables to show hospitality to visitors. In addition, Romans believed that its scent would prevent anger, and that eating it would boost intelligence. At present, mint is used traditionally as an herbal remedy to stimulate digestion, relax and invigorate the senses.

Our award winning wild mountain mint is hand harvested 1,800m above sea level from its native habitat, Lalvar Mountain in the Lori region of Armenia, by the residents of the village of Odzun, supervised by an ethnobotanist, taking into account the time of day and time of year to keep the aroma and active ingredients at their best. The grassy green leaves are dried in the shade under the ceramic roof of a natural drier to preserve the quality, essential oils and taste. The leaves are then milled slightly by hand to allow greater extraction of essential oils with every infusion. Compared to standard mint infusions available, our mint is noticeably delicate, not only due to being a completely different subspecies of mint, but also due to altitude and purer growing conditions. Our mountain mint is slightly sweet, with a more subtle refreshing minty flavour and apple like aroma, proving a greener colour in cup.

Mountain mint infusion may be drunk hot or ice cold, and may be used in mocktails, cocktails and recipes. Find the recipe for our classic After 4 mocktail here. A cup of mountain mint infusion is perfect after a meal to aid digestion.

Smashing tea. Not like other mint teas out there that sometimes taste a bit like drinking tea while chewing mint gum. My pre-school son drinks it as its not caffeinated and he loves it. Great way to indoctrinate the young into drinking tea with all those fizzy and sugary drinks that are out there.

I love a mint tea after a meal and this is just perfect. Such a delicate tea with an almost sweet taste…delicious!!!!

  3. Alexia Ganotaki

This is not any mint tea! This is THE mint tea. Different from what I have tasted so far it has a really calming and soothing effect! Softer and more mellow than the standard mint tea.

    Outstanding tea !!! A revelation indeed .
Cannot recommend it highly enough .
Drinking it for the first time brought home how poorly we are served with herbal teas by most establishments

A far cry from your bog standard peppermint tea served all around England. Both sweet and mellow but with depth of flavour, it’s the perfect post-dinner brew.
