To tea or not to tea? That is the question

Camellia Sinensis
Camellia Sinensis

“I’m just going to grab myself a cup of chamomile tea before I sleep….”

So far so good? Can you spot the typo? The term ‘tea’ is commonly used to describe any hot infused beverage (from black and green tea to mint and chamomile). However, in reality ‘tea’ refers to the beverage prepared by pouring hot water over the leaves (and in some cases the stems) of the Camellia Sinensis plant, i.e. the tea plant. In contrast, an ‘herbal tisane’ or ‘herbal infusion’ is the general term given to an infused beverage made using the parts (roots, leaves, flowers, seeds, stems/bark) of any other plant, such as mint, chamomile, linden and safflower. There are literally thousands of different types of herbal tisanes, which have been consumed throughout time.

Visit our collection to learn more about each of our herbal tisanes.
